Armed robbers hit luxury store in Paris reported to be ‘Jeweler to the Stars’
PARIS (AP) â French police are hunting for armed robbers who hit a jewelry store on one of Parisâ poshest streets. Police said the armed robbers arrived and left on motorbikes Saturday, firing a shot outside without causing any casualties. Media reports said the target was the exclusive Harry Winston boutique, self-described âJeweler to the Stars.â The boutique was cordoned off as police investigators went in and out of it. The Paris prosecutorâs office overseeing the investigation gave the robbery’s location as Avenue Montaigne, where Harry Winston has its dazzling, by-appointment store, but wouldnât confirm that the jeweler was the target. Prosecutors are not saying if the robbers made off with jewels.
Dabney Coleman, actor who specialized in curmudgeons, dies at 92
NEW YORK (AP) â Dabney Coleman, the mustachioed character actor who specialized in smarmy villains like the chauvinist boss in â9 to 5â and the nasty TV director in âTootsie,â has died. He was 92. For two decades Coleman labored in movies and TV shows as a talented but largely unnoticed performer. That changed abruptly in 1976 when he was cast as the incorrigibly corrupt mayor of the hamlet of Fernwood in âMary Hartman, Mary Hartman,â a satirical soap opera. He won a Golden Globe for âThe Slap Maxwell Storyâ and an Emmy Award for best supporting actor in Peter Levinâs 1987 small screen legal drama âSworn to Silence.â

LOS ANGELES (AP) â Security video appears to show Sean âDiddyâ Combs beating singer Cassie in a Los Angeles hotel hallway in 2016. The video obtained by CNN and aired Friday shows Combs punching and kicking Cassie, who was his girlfriend at the time. The video closely resembles the description of a 2016 incident described in a lawsuit filed by Cassie in November that alleged beatings and sexual abuse from Combs. The lawsuit was settled the following day, but several more followed from others along with a criminal sex-trafficking investigation. Representatives for Combs had no immediate comment on the footage, but he has previously denied the allegations in the lawsuits.
An unusual autumn freeze grips parts of South America, giving Chile its coldest May in 74 years
SANTIAGO, Chile (AP) â Chileans are bundling up for their coldest autumn in more than 70 years mere days after sunning in T-shirts. It has been a dramatic change of wardrobe brought about by a sudden cold front gripping portions of South America unaccustomed to bitter wind chills in the Southern Hemisphere’s autumn. Temperatures along the coast of Chile and in Santiago, the capital, dipped near freezing and made this month the coldest May the country has seen since 1950, according to the Chilean meteorological agency. A succession of polar air masses moved over southern swaths of the continent.
English fishing village told to boil water after a parasite outbreak sickens over 45 people
LONDON (AP) â A scenic fishing village in southwestern England is on its third day under instructions to boil its tap water after a parasite sickened more than 45 people. Around 16,000 homes and businesses in the Brixham area of Devon have been affected after cryptosporidium, a microscopic parasite, was discovered earlier in the week. The parasite causes diarrhea that can last more than two weeks. The outbreak is the latest example of Britainâs troubled water system. South West Water has apologized and says the problem may come from a pipe in a cattle pasture. The outbreak also caused a primary school to close.
The last pandas at any US zoo are expected to leave Atlanta for China this fall
ATLANTA (AP) â The last U.S. zoo to have pandas in its care is preparing to say goodbye to the four giant bears this fall. Officials at Zoo Atlanta said Friday they preparing to return panda parents Lun Lun and Yang Yang to China along with their American-born twins, Ya Lun and Xi Lun. They are the last pandas in the country since the National Zoo in Washington returned three in November. Atlanta received Lun Lun and Yang Yang in 1999 as part of a loan agreement that is expiring. It’s possible the San Diego Zoo will welcome a new panda pair this summer.
The unofficial spokesman for the American muscle car, Tim Kuniskis, is retiring
DETROIT (AP) â The CEO of the Ram and Dodge brands and the unofficial voice of American muscle cars is retiring from Stellantis after nearly 32 years. The announcement Friday of Tim Kuniskis’ retirement comes as the company struggles with U.S. sales as it begins the transition from gasoline to electric vehicles. Through April, its sales were down 14.1%. Kuniskis was leading the Dodge brand’s transition to electric muscle cars. Â Recently Kuniskis was CEO of both the Dodge and Ram brands. Heâll be replaced at Ram by Chris Feuell, who will take on Ram in addition to her duties leading the Chrysler brand. Sales executive Matt McAlear will become Dodge brand CEO.
An annual rich list says Paul McCartney is Britain’s first billionaire musician
LONDON (AP) â Paul McCartney is a billionaire Beatle. The annual Sunday Times Rich List says McCartney is the first British musician to be worth 1 billion pounds ($1.27 billion). The list released Friday calculates that the wealth of the 81-year-old musician and his wife Nancy Shevell has grown by 50 million pounds since last year. That’s due to McCartneyâs 2023 Got Back tour, the rising value of his back catalogue and Beyonceâs cover of The Beatlesâ âBlackbirdâ on her âCowboy Carterâ album. McCartney ranks 165th overall on the newspaperâs list. Top spot goes to Hinduja Group owner Gopi Hinduja and his family, worth an estimated 37 billion pounds. King Charles III ranks 258th with an estimated wealth of 610 million pounds.
Lainey Wilson wins big at the 2024 Academy of Country Music Awards, including the top honor
It was Lainey Wilsonâs night, in many ways. She took home female artist of the year and the top prize of entertainer of the year at the 2024 Academy of Country Music Awards. The awards were handed out Thursday at the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas, just north of Dallas. Hosted by Reba McEntire, the 59th ACM Awards were a star-studded event with performances from artists including Kane Brown, Blake Shelton, Chris Stapleton, Post Malone and more. The ACMs streamed live on Prime Video and the Amazon Music channel on Twitch Live.
