Auburn running back Brian Battie was wounded by a gunshot on Friday night in his hometown of Sarasota, Florida, as reported by Sarasota Herald-Tribune columnist Doug Fernandes.
This is unreal. Former Braden River RB Tommie Battie was shot and killed last night in Sarasota, and his brother, ex-Sarasota High, USF and current Auburn RB Brian Battie, was shot in the head and is fighting for his life.

A program spokesperson from Auburn stated on Saturday that they are aware of the situation and are gathering more information.
Fernandes also mentioned that Battie’s brother, Tommie Battie IV, was shot and killed in the same incident at a hookah bar in Sarasota.
Battie moved to Auburn from South Florida in 2023, where he had become an All-American kick returner for the Bulls. He continued his role as a return man for the Tigers last season and was part of a deep running back group at Auburn.
During his one season at Auburn, Battie rushed for 227 yards and a touchdown on 51 carries. He also had 28 kick returns for 645 yards, ranking fourth in the Southeastern Conference.
