Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese is now a proud professional sports team owner.
DC Power Football Club, a women’s team based in Washington set to debut this summer in the United Soccer League Super League, welcomed Reese as the first member of its ownership group on Tuesday.
“I’ve always wanted to make an impact in sports, not just in women’s basketball,” Reese said on Tuesday. “I’ve always talked about wanting to have ownership in something. While basketball is my main focus, growing up in the DMV area, I’ve had a strong passion for sports, so being a part of the Power FC soccer team is incredibly exciting. I have a personal interest in soccer, and many of my friends also play the sport. I am thrilled about this partnership, as opportunities like this are not common for young black women.”
Reese, who hails from Randallstown, Maryland, near Baltimore, mentioned that discussions to join the ownership group began around the time she made the decision to leave LSU for the WNBA. As a three-time All-American, Reese led LSU to the NCAA championship in 2023 and helped them reach the Elite Eight this year, following two seasons at Maryland.
Power FC is among the eight teams set to compete in the inaugural season of the USL Super League, starting in August. An additional eight teams are slated to join in 2025 or later once stadium projects are finalized, as per the league’s website.
“I believe more women will step up and own various ventures,” Reese noted. “Hopefully, I can eventually own my own team. That’s my ultimate goal. I aspire to also have ownership in a WNBA team.”
