The NHL and the Petco Love foundation have teamed up to showcase dogs available for adoption from shelters or rescue groups representing all 32 teams across the league. In the “Stanley Pup” event, 16 puppies representing teams that made it to the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs will compete in a friendly competition.
The Stanley Pup will be televised on NHL Network and ESPN+ on June 7 at 8 p.m. ET. Celebrity dog lovers such as Kristin Chenoweth, Mickey Guyton, and Miranda Lambert will be making appearances.
“At the NHL, we are passionate about supporting important causes, and creating a program that helps find homes for rescue dogs is incredibly rewarding,” stated NHL chief content officer Steve Mayer. “The show promises to be a lot of fun, and we can’t wait to see our participating puppies like Nathan McKibble, Joe Pawvelski, Alexander O-fetch-kin, and many more hit the Stanley Pup rink.”

Fans of the puppies can visit Petco Love’s website to find out how to adopt the dogs featured in the Stanley Pup program. The NHL mentioned that a variety of breeds will be highlighted throughout the event.
“I’m thrilled to launch this exciting canine sports event with the NHL and appreciate their dedication to adoption. This show will be a highlight for dog-loving hockey fans,” said producer Michael Levitt. “The cuteness overload will be through the roof! I’m excited to demonstrate to viewers the special bond we share with rescue dogs and how they enrich our lives when they become part of our families.”
The Stanley Cup Playoffs currently have four remaining teams: New York Rangers, Florida Panthers, Edmonton Oilers, and Dallas Stars. The Rangers are leading the series against the Panthers 2-1, while the Oilers and Stars are tied at one game each. The winners of these series will face off in the Stanley Cup Final next month.
