Montana Department of Transportation crews will start a bridge rehabilitation project on a 2-mile stretch of South Billings Boulevard/Blue Creek Road, just south of Billings.
The project area begins near the entrance to Riverfront Park and extends south, ending near the intersection with Old Blue Creek Road. The majority of work is planned to occur on the bridge structure that carries South Billings Boulevard traffic over the Yellowstone River, commonly known as the Thomas Dolan Bridge.
Construction is scheduled to begin June 3, and anticipated for completion this fall, weather and other unforeseen factors permitting, MDT said in a news release. Traffic control will remain in place for the duration of the project. Motorists should expect travel delays, MDT said.
Along with traffic control, reduced speeds and an alternating one-way traffic pattern controlled by temporary signal lights will be in place. This work is not expected to impact recreational access to the Yellowstone River. Drivers are asked to follow all posted signage and watch for workers when traveling through the project area, MDT said.

Proposed work includes bridge deck resurfacing, bridge and pedestrian rail replacement, bridge approach work, guardrail upgrades, and shared-use path improvements. The purpose of the project is to enhance roadway safety features, improve pedestrian accessibility, and extend the service life of the bridge, according to MDT.
