BILLINGS — Billings Scarlets pitchers Drew McDowell and Colter Wilson limited the Billings Royals to five hits over seven innings in a 4-2 victory in Class AA American Legion baseball on Friday at Pirtz Field.
With the win, the Scarlets improved to 15-1 overall and 1-0 in league play. The Royals fell to 9-10 and 3-1.
McDowell pitched the first 5.1 innings and scattered five hits and two runs (one earned). He walked four and struck out eight. Wilson pitched the final 1.2 innings and walked three and struck out one.
Chase Wise, Jakob Wilcox, Cody Collis, and Mason Brosseau each had two hits for the Scarlets. Hunter Doyle doubled for the winners. Nolan Berkram, Collis, Brosseau and Kade Vatnsdal each had an RBI.
For the Royals, Sy Waldron was 2 for 4, including a double, with a run and an RBI. Camden Wilson was 2 for 3 for the Royals.

Overall, the Scarlets had 11 hits and the Royals five. The Scarlets had one error and the Royals didn’t commit any fielding miscues.
The Royals struck for one run in the top of the first and the Scarlets tied the contest at 1-1 after two. In the top of the fourth, the Royals plated a runner and in the bottom of the frame the Scarlets responded with two runs. The Scarlets tacked on another run in the bottom of the sixth.
With the win, the Scarlets are 3-0 vs. their crosstown rivals this season.
