Drew Gordon, a former NBA forward and the brother of Denver Nuggets player Aaron Gordon, passed away in a tragic car accident at the age of 33.
Authorities reported that Drew was driving a Vanderhall Carmel three-wheeled autocycle when he collided with a GMC Sierra pickup. The driver of the GMC, a 25-year-old, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital, while Drew Gordon unfortunately lost his life at the scene, as confirmed by Oregon’s Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office.
Initial findings suggest that Gordon’s vehicle crossed the center line and hit the GMC, and while the crash is still being investigated, authorities do not suspect impairment.
After starting his basketball career in San Jose, Gordon played two seasons at UCLA before transferring to the University of New Mexico. His professional journey led him to Serbia’s Partizan Belgrade in 2012 after going undrafted, followed by stints with the Philadelphia 76ers in 2014 and various teams in Europe. He retired in 2023 after playing in different countries like Turkey, France, Poland, and Russia.
He leaves behind his wife and three children, whom the Denver Nuggets, the team where his younger brother Aaron Gordon currently plays, remembered in a touching tribute. “Drew may have left us too soon, but his memory will live on through his beautiful children and all those who loved him,” expressed the Denver Nuggets in a statement.
The Philadelphia 76ers also extended their condolences to the Gordon family and their friends.
