An incident of gun violence occurred in Ohio overnight, resulting in one fatality and twenty-four injuries on Saturday.
Reportedly, the shooting took place shortly after midnight near Kelly and 8th Avenues in Akron, a city located south of Cleveland.
While a 27-year-old man was found dead at the scene, his identity has not been disclosed.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and the police have yet to determine a suspect.
Prior to the shooting, there was a street celebration happening in the area, with one witness describing a lively scene with people enjoying themselves before the gunfire erupted.
The authorities discovered multiple bullet casings and a firearm at the site, as depicted in photos captured by Scripps News Cleveland Photojournalist Mike Vielhaber, showing police marking evidence at the scene.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, seven individuals were admitted to the hospital in the early hours of Sunday, with one in critical condition.
The hospital underwent a strict lockdown from midnight until approximately 3:30 a.m.
Summa Health disclosed that fifteen patients were received at their facility that morning, with thirteen having non-life-threatening injuries. Some have been discharged, while one remains critical.
Summa Health spokesperson, Mike Bernstein, expressed gratitude towards the first responders and caregivers for their efforts in assisting the patients and the community.
In a joint statement by Akron Mayor Shammas Malik and Akron Police Chief Brian Harding, they addressed the tragedy and emphasized the importance of bringing the perpetrators to justice while seeking community support to prevent further violence and retribution.
