Summer is here! This means barbeques, fun in the sun, and another season of Battle on the Beach for HGTV, where Taniya Nayak, Ty Pennington, and Alison Victoria are competing in Season 4.
They will be mentoring teams in Oak Island, North Carolina, with a $100,000 budget to renovate coastal properties. Judges Bryan and Sarah Baeumler from Renovation Island will decide the winners of the $50,000 prize.
Nayak, teaming up with Samantha and Sean Kilgore, shares her thoughts on the upcoming competition:
How do you find the experience of judging compared to competing?
Taniya Nayak: Mentoring in Battle on the Beach and judging on The Great Christmas Light Fight are two different roles. I enjoy being a judge as I can provide guidance and tough love. While I love construction, I prefer the role of a judge.
With a win in Season 1, how does it feel now that everyone has a victory?
Competition is intense with each of us having a win; the rivalry is strong. It’s like a sibling rivalry, and the stakes are higher this season.
What have you learned from past seasons in working with your team?
I’ve learned to mentor by encouraging and letting the teams utilize their talent. While I initially wanted to win aggressively, I now focus on advice and letting them take control of their decisions.
Your thoughts on the judges?
The judges are tough but with great experience and respect. They provide honest feedback, which is essential for the competition.
Working with a team that has limited experience, do you feel like the underdog?
Yes, my team had minimal experience, but they worked hard. While facing challenges, I’m proud of their dedication.
Challenges ahead for your team?
This season brings more challenges, both in renovation tasks and fun mini-competitions to give teams an edge. Expect surprises and unexpected twists.
Fun distractions like carnival games and relay races?
While the challenges are intense, the games provide a breather and a chance to have fun. It’s a life lesson on balancing work and fun in stressful situations.
Highlights of Oak Island?
The charm, welcoming people, and great seafood made Oak Island memorable. Alison and I enjoyed the experience without the humidity.
Bonding with Alison and Ty?
We have a great synergy and friendship that shines on camera. Despite the competition, we have a lot of fun working together.
Rivalry with Alison?
I aim to win a kitchen challenge against Alison, who excels in that area.
Effect of the $100,000 budget?
While the budget is significant, it quickly gets used up with all the necessary renovations and trades involved, similar to previous seasons.
Final thoughts on the season?
Expect intense competition, challenges, and surprises. Contestants are fully committed to winning the prize, making it a thrilling season to watch.
Future locations for Battle on the Beach?
St. Thomas, St. Barts, Bahamas, French Riviera, Mykonos are on the wishlist for future seasons.
Battle on the Beach Season 4 premieres on June 3, 9/8c on HGTV
