Libertarian presidential candidate Chase Oliver is vying to become the next commander in chief.
Oliver sat down with Scripps News’ Rob Nelson on Tuesday to advocate for why voters should select him over President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump.
“You may have different characteristics or backgrounds from me,” Oliver stated. “But if you’re leading a peaceful life without relying on government force, then I am your ally.”
The 38-year-old’s platform includes no new gun restrictions, the decriminalization of possession and use of all drugs, and a streamlined path to citizenship for immigrants already in the country.
Oliver acknowledges the differing stances of President Biden and Trump on immigration but argues that neither has effectively addressed the issue.
“Both of them view this as a political game,” he remarked. “They have allowed Congress to neglect their duties in favor of substantial executive overreach.”
President Biden is poised to announce executive measures on the border to restrict asylum-seekers from entering the country if daily encounters surpass a threshold.

Although Oliver has slim odds of winning against his Democratic and Republican opponents in November, he mentioned to Scripps News that he sees “cracks” in the two-party system. When asked about voting for Biden or Trump if not on the ballot, he indicated he would abstain.
“I would refrain from voting if Donald Trump and Joe Biden were my only choices on the ballot because my time would be better spent making an impact in my community or simply staying home and resting rather than casting a vote for either of these individuals,” he commented.
Openly gay, Oliver perceives a transformation in the nation, with younger voters aligning with the Libertarian ideology. He also believes the U.S. is prepared for a gay president.
“I think our country is ready for that because we have evolved into a nation that is more accepting of individuals embracing their true selves and living peacefully,” he expressed.
