WILMINGTON, Del. — Federal prosecutors on Tuesday portrayed President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter, as deceitful and driven by addiction. They described him as a man whose destructive habits affected loved ones and who knowingly lied on federal forms to buy a gun in 2018.
Jurors were presented with the document central to the case, and Hunter Biden’s lawyer argued that he did not believe he was in the grip of addiction when he claimed on the paperwork that he did not have a drug problem. According to attorney Abbe Lowell in his opening statements, during the short time he owned the gun, he never used it and it was never loaded.
“You will see that he is innocent,” Lowell asserted.
Hunter Biden faces three felony charges related to the purchase of a Colt revolver while, as stated in his memoir, battling a crack addiction. He is accused of providing false information to a licensed gun dealer, falsely claiming on the application that he was not a drug user, and unlawfully possessing the gun for 11 days.
