Montana’s state parks offer plenty of year-round opportunities for outdoor recreation, with special events increasing during the summer months.
Missouri Headwaters State Park, located at the beginning of the Missouri River, allows visitors to explore the historic significance of the area, following in the footsteps of Lewis and Clark.
As summer approaches, more activities are becoming available in the parks.
“We also have summer programs. And here at Missouri Headwaters State Park, we’ve got a great lineup of speakers, musicians, and events happening this summer,” stated FWP spokesman Morgan Jacobsen. “Starting June 8th, we will have a program every Saturday until mid-August.
The summer season kicks off with music by Rob Quiist, followed by a variety of speakers and events reflecting the diversity of the area.
Jacobsen encourages visitors to arrive early, explore the park, and return to the main entrance by 7 p.m. for the events.
“Each event is free and open to the public. They’re family-friendly, and weather permitting, each event concludes with a s’mores roast around a campfire,” Jacobsen added. “It’s a fun way to experience the park and learn more about this unique part of the state, especially the headwaters area.
Jacobsen also mentions that many other state parks in Montana offer similar summer activities. To discover more options, visit https://fwp.mt.gov/stateparks/park-activities.
