The Butte Miners improved to 7-1 on the season thanks to a 4-1 victory over The Gallatin Valley Outlaws in an American Legion baseball game in Butte on Tuesday.
Ethan Cunningham was stellar on the mound for the Miners, striking out 11 Gallatin batters, allowing just three hits, and one run, while walking four in 6 2/3 innings of work to get the win.
Tocher Lee and Cayde Stajcar sparked the offense by each scoring runs in the first inning after getting hit by pitches. Lee stole second base and scored an error, as did Stajcar to make it 2-0 after the first inning.
Gallatin Valley brought home a run in the top of the second, but the Miners answered with two runs in the bottom of the third as Anthony Knott and Quinn Cox each drove in runs on RBI singles.
Butte managed five hits total in the win, two of which were by Cox. Will Stepan and Matthew Donaldson also had one hit each along with Knott. Butte is now 7-1 on the season and 4-0 in the Southern A Legion standings after sweeping the Helena Reps on May 31st by the scores of 10-0 and 7-6. Butte also knocked off The Outlaws 10-5 on June 3rd.
