Fiji’s prime minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, defied his age by winning a bronze medal at the Oceania championships in shot put at the age of 75. Rabuka, a former athlete in rugby and athletics, finished third in his age category with a throw of 7.09 metres, behind two Australian competitors.
Despite his political commitments, Rabuka continues to inspire the younger generation to stay fit and healthy. He expressed his joy and motivation in a Facebook post, sharing a picture of himself holding the medal.
This achievement is significant as it demonstrates Rabuka’s dedication to sports and fitness, despite his age.
Rabuka, known for his role in leading two coups in 1987 and his subsequent political career, has now returned to the premiership after a 23-year hiatus. His recent success in athletics serves as a reminder of his multifaceted abilities and determination across various fields.
It is commendable that at the age of 75, Rabuka continues to actively participate in sports and set an example for others to follow.
