The Green Bay Packers are looking to secure their franchise quarterback for the long term, aiming to do so before the start of training camp. Last season, they gave Jordan Love a one-year, $13.5 million extension with the intention of making him the starter. Love delivered a strong performance, impressing the front office by completing 64.2 percent of his passes for 4,159 yards, 32 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. Now, the Packers are eager to negotiate a multi-year deal with Love. “We’re currently in discussions about it,” said Green Bay general manager Brian Gutekunst on 97.3 The Game, a Milwaukee-based radio station. “The good thing is that both parties are aligned in wanting the same outcome. We’re hoping to finalize this before training camp.” Love, who is 25 years old, is still attending voluntary offseason activities even without a contract extension. Training camp is on the horizon, set to begin in just over a month. Under his existing contract, Love is due to earn $11 million in 2024, significantly less than the salaries of other top quarterbacks in today’s market. The Packers drafted Love in the first round (26th overall) of the 2020 draft from Utah State. He had limited playing time in his first two NFL seasons before taking over as the starter in 2023. With Love leading the offense last season, Green Bay made it to the NFC divisional round, ultimately losing to the San Francisco 49ers. The team finished the regular season with a 9-8 record. –Field Level Media
