The NASCAR Cup Series hits the road for the second time this season, heading to Wine Country and the Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway in California.
Sunday’s race is the second of five road-course races on the 2024 Cup circuit. The first at the Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Texas, was won by William Byron in March.
The last three road races are: the Chicago Street Race (July 7), Watkins Glen (Sept. 15) and the Charlotte ROVAL (Oct. 13).
At Sonoma, starting position is crucial for success, as only two drivers have won this race starting outside of the top 15 over the past 34 Cup races. Six wins have come from qualifying on the front row.
Martin Truex Jr. is the defending champion at the 12-turn, 1.99-mile road course, where he’s won four times in his career.

Pick to win at Sonoma: Martin Truex Jr. (+550)
The driver of the No. 19 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota has the most Sonoma wins of any active driver with four, including last year’s victory. In fact, Truex has won three out of the last five races at the road course.
A victory this weekend will tie him with Jeff Gordon for the most all time at the 1.99-mile, multi-elevation, 12-turn track.
Truex is fourth in Cup points, even though he doesn’t have any wins this season. He does, however, have seven top-10s, including four top-5s through the first 15 races of 2024.
Top-5 Pick: Tyler Reddick (+110)
While this will be just his fourth Cup start at Sonoma, Reddick, the driver of the No. 45 23/XI Racing Toyota, does have three career road-course wins and seven top-5s in just 22 starts.
Reddick, who is sixth in Cup points, has one victory so far this season, coming at Talladega in April.
Long shot pick for Sonoma: Daniel Suarez (+2500)
Suarez picked up his first-ever Cup win at this very track in 2022.
The driver of the No. 99 Trackhouse Racing Chevy races well at road courses, with six career top-5s.
In six starts at Sonoma, Suarez has an average finish of 13.8.
He’s also got one victory this season, winning at Atlanta in the second race of 2024.
And at these odds for the Toyota/Save Mart 350, it’s worth a look.
