Howard University is severing connections with Sean “Diddy” Combs, revoking an honorary degree and discontinuing a scholarship program in his name. This decision comes after the emergence of a 2016 video allegedly showing him assaulting R&B singer Cassie.
According to a statement from the university’s Board of Trustees, “Mr. Combs’ actions in the video are so fundamentally contrary to Howard University’s values that he is no longer deemed deserving of the institution’s highest honor.”

The board unanimously agreed to rescind the honorary degree Combs received in 2014, stripping him of all associated honors and privileges. They have instructed that his name be removed from all documents listing honorary degree recipients of Howard University.
Furthermore, the board has instructed university officials to sever financial connections with Combs, return a $1 million donation, discontinue the scholarship program, and dissolve a 2023 pledge agreement with the Sean Combs Foundation.

Combs publicly admitted to assaulting his ex-girlfriend Cassie in a hotel corridor in 2016 after video footage of the incident was released by CNN. In a social media statement, he expressed remorse, acknowledging that his actions were indefensible.
“I take full accountability for my behavior in that video. I was repulsed then and I am still repulsed now,” Combs stated.
A lawsuit filed by Cassie (Cassandra Ventura) last year sparked a series of similar legal actions and public accusations against Combs. The lawsuit has since been settled.
