New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones continues to make progress in his recovery from a torn ACL but will not be participating in team drills at the upcoming two-day minicamp, according to coach Brian Daboll. Daboll confirmed on Tuesday that Jones is on track in his rehabilitation but will be held out of team activities in order to prepare for training camp. It remains to be seen if Jones will be fully ready for training camp, but Daboll expressed satisfaction with the quarterback’s rehabilitation process, noting that he is making strides. Jones underwent surgery on his right knee in late November after sustaining the injury in a game against Las Vegas. In the 2023 season, Jones had two touchdown passes, six interceptions, and missed three games due to a neck injury. Since being drafted in 2019, Jones has a record of 22-36-1 as a starter with 62 touchdown passes and 40 interceptions in 60 games. Daboll also praised the progress of free-agent signee Drew Lock, highlighting his growth and professionalism since joining the team. While Daboll did not confirm a quarterback competition upon Jones’ return, he acknowledged Lock’s development and improvement. The Giants recently faced the retirement of tight end Darren Waller, with Daboll expressing concern for Waller as a person and wishing him well in his decision. Despite Waller’s absence, Daboll commended the work of tight ends coach Tim Kelly and the group of tight ends, including Daniel Bellinger and Lawrence Cager, who have shown versatility and skill heading into training camp. Overall, Daboll expressed confidence in the team’s preparation and progress leading up to the upcoming season. –Field Level Media
