Wreck of the last ship of famed Anglo-Irish explorer Shackleton found off the coast of Canada
ST. JOHN’S, Newfoundland (AP) — The wreck of the last ship belonging to a famous Irish-born British explorer of Antarctica has been found off the coast of Canada by an international team led by the Royal Canadian Geographical Society. The Quest was found using sonar scans on Sunday evening, sitting on its keel under 390 meters — about 1,280 feet — of churning, frigid water. The society said Wednesday that its towering mast is lying broken beside it, likely cracked off as the vessel was sucked into the depths after it struck ice on May 5, 1962. Sir Ernest Shackleton’s death aboard the ship in 1922 marked the end of what historians consider the “heroic age” of Antarctic exploration.

He said he immediately knew it was the bears and then shot the video.

The annual rainy season has arrived with a wallop in much of Florida, where a disorganized disturbance of tropical weather from the Gulf of Mexico has caused street flooding and triggered tornado watches but so far has not caused major damage or injuries. Florida’s rainy season roughly begins in June with a six-month hurricane season, which this year is forecast to be among the most active in recent memory. The National Hurricane Center says the disturbance has not reached cyclone status and was given only a slight chance to form into one.

And neither Musk nor anyone representing him in the case bothered to show up at a status hearing Wednesday.
Top investigator in Karen Read murder case questioned over inappropriate texts
BOSTON (AP) — Defense attorneys have grilled the lead investigator in the case of a woman accused of leaving her Boston police officer boyfriend for dead in a snowbank about offensive and inappropriate texts he wrote about her. Massachusetts State Trooper Michael Proctor also acknowledged Wednesday that he was friends with several witnesses. The defense also criticised Proctor for texts in which he appeared to single out Karen Read as responsible for John O’Keefe’s death less than 24 hours after his body was found in January 2022. Americans celebrate their flag every year, and the holiday was born in Wisconsin
WAUBEKA, Wis. (AP) — Each June, Waubeka, Wisconsin, venerates one of the nation’s more enduring symbols with a holiday that escapes the notice of many Americans. Waubeka has celebrated it on the second Sunday in June for 78 years.
Heat wave in Greece halts visits to Acropolis as drones with thermal cameras monitor temperatures
ATHENS, Greece (AP) — The Acropolis is closing for five hours due to heat wave temperatures in Greece that also shut many schools. The ancient site in Athens that drew nearly 4 million visitors last year is closed Wednesday from midday till 5 p.m. Temperatures hit 39 degrees Celsius (102 degrees Fahrenheit). The heat wave also halted garbage collection in Athens, while drones with thermal cameras are used to coordinate the public health response. A fire at a cookware and food container factory north of Athens sent clouds of thick black smoke into the sky and cellphone alerts urged residents in the area to remain indoors. Cooler weather is expected late Friday.
