Until his death by suicide, Brian Laundrie continued to deceive law enforcement as they investigated the murder of his girlfriend, Gabby Petito, according to investigators.
Investigators noted that even a journal entry where Laundrie mentioned suicide seemed suspicious. An agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation wrote in a search warrant application that Laundrie wrote about options like running away, buying land, or ending his life with a loaded revolver under his mattress. The agent expressed doubts about the entry’s authenticity, suspecting that Laundrie may have altered the date to 2018.
The journal entry now appears eerily prophetic in light of the tragic events involving the couple. The same person who sent text messages from both his and Petito’s phones after her death had a history of deceptive actions.
The journal was among the items seized from the Laundrie family home in 2019 following the discovery of Petito’s remains. The investigative reports released by the FBI contained detailed lists of items taken from the home to piece together the timeline of the couple’s final days.
Additional information from the files revealed disturbing items like weapons, personal belongings, writings, and drawings that indicated potential psychological issues and violent tendencies in Laundrie. Items included a sketchbook with drawings of violent imagery and a dead animal, as well as possessions belonging to Petito.
Despite the search for evidence related to Petito’s death, Laundrie vanished after returning home, and his body was later found in a park near his family’s residence. Investigators also uncovered an undated letter from Petito to Laundrie expressing her concern for his well-being.
