This story has been updated to note seven downhill mountain biking trails are opening on June 13 off the Explorer lift and June 14 off Ramcharger 8.
Late snowstorms delayed the opening of lift-accessed mountain bike trails as Big Sky Resort opened on June 8 for its summer season.
The ground was saturated as warm temperatures melted the snowpack. With a warmer week forecasted, select lift-serviced downhill mountain biking trails will open on June 13, said Stacie Harris, the resort’s public relations manager.
All of the trails accessed from the Explorer lift will be open, including Easy Rider, Fade to Green, Fox Trot, Otter Slide, Rabbit Run, Takes Two and Tango, she said.Â
On Friday, June 14, Ramcharger 8 will open with access to Snake Charmer, Flicker, and the Mountain to Meadow Connector thanks to a week of warm, dry weather.

The mountain features 40 miles of bike trails for riders of all experience levels. Right now, Swift Current and Explorer lifts are only open Thursdays through Sundays and then daily from June 27 through Sept. 15.
Ramcharger lift is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. but only provides scenic rides, not mountain bike hauls. Tickets are currently $25 per person for scenic lift rides. Bike haul tickets, when that is operational, cost $39.
Despite the lingering snowpack, nine multi-use trails located at lower elevations are open.
Other summer activities offered at the mountain include the Nature and Adventure Ziplines, bungee trampoline, giant swing, and the climbing wall. They are open from Thursday through Sunday through the month of June. Mini-golf and gemstone mining will be available daily. Basecamp activities will be offered daily from July 1 through Sept. 15.
For those seeking a high altitude adventure, this is the inaugural summer operation of the Lone Peak Tram, which will run for Expeditions Friday-Sunday from July 4 to Sept. 8. Access to the tram is only for Guided Lone Peak Expeditions, which requires an $80 ticket.
The tram climbs to the summit of 11,166-foot Lone Mountain, the highest scenic overlook in Montana, with views of Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, and Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks.
Guests will ride up the Swift Current chairlift from the Mountain Village base area and receive a ride from the top of the lift to the base of the Tram and back.
Latest update
This spring, while many Big Sky skiers were enjoying the last few weeks of the season, summer chairlift construction was already underway on the Moonlight Basin side.
On April 17, Madison 8 construction kicked off with the decommissioning of the existing Six Shooter lift. In the following weeks, all 85 chairs were removed from the lift line, followed by the cutting of the haul rope and the demolition of the top and bottom lift terminals.
In mid-May, Six Shooter’s 29 towers were removed via helicopter, clearing the way for the next steps on the new Madison 8 lift.
This will be the third bubble lift and second eight-passenger lift at Big Sky, and is scheduled to be open by the upcoming ski season.
