A few weeks ago at the Class B state track meet, the Jefferson boys completed a rare feat of winning four consecutive state championships.
Two athletes who played integral roles in those state championships, especially the past two years are Dalton Noble and Tavan McMaster.
Noble and McMaster were each part of Jefferson taking the top four spots in the shot put at the state meet, which was critical in winning a fourth team title.
Noble won the state championship in the event for the second year in a row and the future Montana State football player set a new school record with a throw of 58 feet, two inches. McMaster took second in the shot put, scoring eight of his 18 points in that event.
However, his shining moment came in the discus as he won a Class B state championship and set his own school record in the process with a throw of 166-4. It was the first individual state championship for the future Carroll College football player who was all-state in the discus and shot put in 2023 too.

McMaster also bested Noble for the divisional title, before Noble rebounded to win the state championship. A three-time all-state performer in the shot put, Noble also took third in the discus, giving him 16 total points.
The tandem scored 34 of the Panthers’ 90 total points at the Class B state track meet. That, plus the fact that each won a state title and finished in the top three in another was enough to earn them both a share of the IR’s All-Area Boys Track and Field Athlete of the Year.
