Elon Musk has decided to withdraw the lawsuit he filed against OpenAI just before the scheduled hearing on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Musk’s lawyer filed for the dismissal of the entire case. Musk or his representatives have not provided any reasons for dropping the lawsuit, and neither Musk nor his representatives attended the Wednesday hearing.

Musk had filed the lawsuit against the AI company in February, alleging that it had strayed from its original goal of using AI for the betterment of humanity.
The lawsuit claimed that Musk had provided funding to OpenAI under the condition that it would operate as a nonprofit for the public good. Musk asserted that after the partnership with Microsoft, OpenAI had transformed into a “closed-source de facto subsidiary of the largest technology company in the world.”
Musk’s allegations included breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, and unfair business practices against OpenAI.
At that time, OpenAI had pledged to have the case dismissed and released emails showing discussions with Musk about turning OpenAI into a for-profit entity.
Musk had been a significant financial contributor to OpenAI in its early stages, contributing what he described as “tens of millions of dollars,” and he had also been a board member of the company since 2015.
