Apple is facing a lawsuit from two employees alleging gender discrimination. According to Reuters, two women have filed a proposed class-action lawsuit in San Francisco state court that aims to cover more than 12,000 current and former female employees in California. The lawsuit claims that Apple pays women less than men for the same work and asserts that the company’s performance review system is biased against women, leading to lower salaries.

The plaintiffs allege that Apple has violated California’s Equal Pay Act, which mandates equal pay for employees performing similar work based on skill, effort, and responsibility. Apple, in a statement to Reuters, defended its commitment to pay equity regardless of gender, stating, “Every year we partner with an independent third-party expert to examine each team member’s total compensation and make adjustments, where necessary, to ensure that we maintain pay equity.”
The plaintiffs in the lawsuit are seeking unspecified damages and penalties.
