On Thursday night, severe thunderstorms were expected to impact parts of the Great Plains and Midwest.
The National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center warned of the possibility of severe storms from the central and southern Great Plains into the Midwest. These storms could bring large hail, strong winds, and even tornadoes.
Specifically, storms were forecast for northern Missouri and west-central Illinois, with conditions conducive for very large hail and potential tornado activity.
Across the Great Plains, storms could produce large hail and wind gusts up to 80 miles per hour.
The greatest risk of severe storms was predicted for population centers like Kansas City and Topeka, Kansas, as well as Peoria, Illinois. A slight risk area extended from Amarillo, Texas to Springfield, Illinois.
