On Thursday night, severe thunderstorms were forecast to impact parts of the Great Plains and Midwest.
The National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center warned of possible severe storms “from parts of the central and southern Great Plains into the Midwest,” which could bring large hail, strong winds, and potential tornadoes.
The forecast included storms from northern Missouri to west-central Illinois, with conditions favorable for very large hail and the possibility of tornado activity.
Across the Great Plains, storms were expected to potentially produce large hail and wind gusts reaching up to 80 miles per hour.
The highest risk of severe storms was predicted over populated areas like Kansas City, Topeka, and Peoria, with a slight risk extending from Amarillo to Springfield, Illinois.
