Reports from multiple media outlets state that the Cincinnati Bengals are anticipating wide receiver Tee Higgins to sign his franchise tag on Saturday and join training camp next month.
Higgins is set to earn $21.8 million in 2024, a significant increase from the $10.1 million he has made since being drafted as the 33rd overall pick in 2020.
The Bengals now have a window to work on a long-term extension with Higgins before July 15, as they also have Ja’Marr Chase, their other starting receiver, in line for a contract extension and substantial payday.
Higgins, aged 25, has opted out of participating in any offseason events, including the recent mandatory minicamp.
Quarterback Joe Burrow expressed his excitement about reuniting with Higgins on the field.
“Tee and I stay in touch,” Burrow stated, as reported by ESPN. “I’ve seen Tee multiple times this offseason and he looks fantastic. I can’t wait to have him back on the field.”
In 2023, Higgins battled through hamstring and rib injuries, causing him to miss five games. Nonetheless, he managed to record 42 receptions for 656 yards and five touchdowns.
Since donning a Bengals jersey, Higgins has played 58 regular-season games (starting 53) and amassed 257 receptions for 3,684 yards and 24 touchdowns.
He has also contributed 457 yards and three touchdowns across seven playoff games.
