Every two years, the Montana Republican Party leaders hold a Platform Convention to discuss and revise our positions on major issues facing the citizens in the Treasure State. Our next convention is taking place later this month.
Platforms matter, as they communicate our priorities and inform the local, state, and federal GOP officeholders what the party rank-and-file believe.
Over my eight years as the Montana Republican national committeeman, I’ve noticed a growing distinction between our consistent conservative ideals versus the Democrats’ liberal priorities.

There is a stark contrast between how Republicans see the role of government, including growing the economy, protecting our constitutional freedoms, and maintaining safe communities, versus the Democrat policies. But the clearest distinction may concern immigration.
Let’s be clear — Republicans want a secure border, while Democrats have created a wide-open border.
With our MTGOP Platform Convention just weeks away, I went back to see both parties’ platform on the border.
The Republican National Platform is crystal clear: “Illegal immigration endangers everyone, exploits the taxpayers, and insults all who aspire to enter America legally.”
The MTGOP Platform takes a similarly strong position. As Republicans, we acknowledge that our country was founded by immigrants that followed the law. But we also know that a nation only exists and survives when it defines and protects its borders.
Conversely, the national and Montana Democratic Party platforms want MORE illegal immigration.
As a result, the Democrats created the worst border crisis in U.S. history by unleashing an open border. As a result of their policies, there have been 9.6 million illegal immigrants crossing the border since Joe Biden took office. That is nine times the population of Montana, causing more crime, trafficking of humans and drugs, and threatening our national security.
Under Biden, every state is a border state.
Republicans are not fooled by Biden’s recent flip-flop executive order. If Biden really wanted a secure border, he would have continued President Donald Trump’s policies as soon as he was sworn in.
While Montana Democrats worsen the problem, Republican leaders will work together at our convention to strengthen a platform to secure the border. Montana Republicans, we will stand up and stop the Democrats before they destroy our country.
