Authorities in Aurora, Colorado, are on the lookout for the individuals who pretended to be delivery drivers and robbed a family at gunpoint inside their residence.
The incident occurred on Wednesday at 8:45 p.m. According to the police, the suspects were wearing construction vests and claimed to be delivering a package.
The Rodriguez family is still trying to process the recent traumatic events. Angelo Medina Rodriguez mentioned that he had ordered a video game for his son from Amazon, so he didn’t suspect anything when a man appeared on his Ring Doorbell camera claiming to have a delivery.
Rodriguez explained that his 6-year-old son, 12-year-old daughter, and their caretaker, David Hernandez, were at home during the incident. When they opened the door, three armed men barged in demanding money.
After David managed to escape and seek help from a neighbor, the intruders reportedly assaulted the children. The son and daughter sustained minor injuries and were taken to the hospital.
Rodriguez emphasized the emotional toll on his family, especially his wife and children, urging for a relocation as they no longer feel safe in their current home.
‘They didn’t have to hurt the kids’: Armed robbers pose as delivery drivers, invade Aurora home
Authorities suspect that the family was targeted due to a business operation at their residence. Personal belongings and cash from the business were stolen during the robbery.
The Aurora Police Department advises residents to exercise caution when encountering unfamiliar individuals at their doors. Legitimate delivery personnel usually wear identifiable uniforms, and packages can often be received without being home.
Consider alternative delivery arrangements, such as using a P.O. box or opting for a “Hold for Pickup” service. If any mail or delivery appears suspicious, contact the carrier and inform the local police department.
