US President Joe Biden didn’t let jet lag slow him down as he flew straight from the G7 in Italy to Los Angeles for a star-studded fundraiser to support his election campaign against Donald Trump in November.
Biden was accompanied by former President Barack Obama at the event, which featured speeches from actors Julia Roberts and George Clooney, as well as music icon Barbra Streisand.
Despite the presence of Hollywood celebrities, Biden took a serious tone when discussing his opponent Trump, highlighting the importance of the upcoming Supreme Court nominations that the election winner will likely have to make.
Referring to recent controversies surrounding a conservative justice, Biden stated, “The idea that if he’s reelected he’s going to appoint two more flying flags upside down.”
Meanwhile, Trump, running for re-election as a convicted felon, boasted about his fundraising efforts in Detroit, Michigan, a state crucial for Biden’s electoral success in November.
Seeking to appeal to African American voters in Michigan, Trump criticized Biden’s track record and visited both a Black church and a convention of Republican supporters.
While Trump focused on issues like climate protection and immigration, Biden aimed to gather support from Hollywood stars and donors at a record-breaking fundraiser, skipping a peace conference in Switzerland to attend the event.
As the campaign intensifies and the election approaches, both candidates are engaged in a fundraising battle and preparing for the upcoming debates, with polls showing a close race between the two.
