Mayor Eric Adams requested that Sean “Diddy” Combs return his key to New York City after a video surfaced showing him attacking R&B singer Cassie, officials disclosed on Saturday.
Combs returned the key following letters from Adams’ office on June 4, with the key being received back at City Hall on June 10.
Adams expressed his deep concern over the incident in his letter, condemning the actions and showing support for survivors of domestic and gender-based violence.
Combs, who has faced allegations of sexual abuse and a federal criminal investigation, apologized for the attack on Cassie and settled a lawsuit filed by her last year.
Howard University recently revoked an honorary degree and scholarship program awarded to Combs in response to the video involving Cassie.
Despite his influential role in the hip-hop industry, Combs’ reputation has been tarnished by these incidents.
No immediate response was received from Combs’ representative.

Adams presented Combs with the key during a ceremony last year coinciding with the release of a new album.
Furthering the consequences of his actions, Howard University severed ties with Combs by revoking his honorary degree and ending a scholarship program in his name.
An email inquiry to a listed representative for Combs remained unanswered.
