BILLINGS — Not even a day after winning his second consecutive College National Finals bareback championship, Weston Timberman was already on his way to another rodeo on Sunday afternoon.
“As of right now I am driving to Fallon, Nevada,” the 19-year-old who lives in Columbus told The Billings Gazette and 406 MT Sports on Sunday. “We aren’t taking any time off and jumping right back into it and going to a bunch of professional rodeos and making our shot for the Finals.”
Timberman was a perfect 4 for 4 at the Ford Wyoming Center in Casper, Wyoming, to claim the championship. He had scores of 80.5, 81, 80.5 and 79 for an average of 321. Cooper Filipek of Gillette College (Wyoming) finished second with an average of 320.5. He had a score of 81 in the short go to make things with Timberman tight.
“I went into that last go round, the short go, with a three-point lead and I was pretty confident in myself to keep that lead,” Timberman explained. “I kind of had a little stumble at the end of my ride and when I got off, I wasn’t nervous. I was going to be OK with whatever happened. I felt accomplished enough to be in the position I was, and if it all worked out, it all worked out. So, I was very grateful for that. It did come a touch close; closer than I was hoping.”

The 2022 Columbus High School graduate said repeating “feels awesome. That is the coolest thing that not a lot of people get a chance to do or accomplish and it’s a very cool thing I’m very proud of.”
He is a perfect 8 for 8 at the Ford Wyoming Center at the CNFR after his performance this past week and last season.
“All eight of them are good, too,” Timberman said with a laugh.
Timberman said that he had an easygoing approach to the CNFR. Timberman didn’t let the pressure of defending a national championship get to him.
