Isabella Strahan, the 19-year-old daughter of “Good Morning America” co-host Michael Strahan, has successfully completed her final round of chemotherapy, marking the end of her six-month battle with a rare type of brain tumor.
She announced this milestone in a vlog on her YouTube channel, stating, “It’s been a long journey but I made it.”
Surrounded by hospital staff and loved ones, Isabella was showered in confetti and serenaded with “Celebration” by Kool & The Gang as she made her way to ring the bell signifying the end of her cancer treatment.
Her father, Michael Strahan, shared the heartwarming moment on his Instagram, calling Isabella a “SUPERWOMAN” and expressing his pride in her strength and determination.
Isabella’s journey began when she started experiencing symptoms while starting her first year at the University of Southern California. After seeking medical attention, doctors discovered a fast-growing tumor in the back of her brain, leading to her diagnosis of medulloblastoma.
She underwent surgery to remove the tumor, followed by rehabilitation, radiation, and chemotherapy at Duke Children’s Hospital & Health Center in Durham, North Carolina.
Medulloblastoma is a rare form of cancerous brain tumor that primarily affects children. Isabella’s case, occurring in adulthood, is considered a rarity with a reported incidence of 0.05 cases per 100,000 population.
The five-year survival rate for medulloblastoma is approximately 80%, with regular MRI scans performed to monitor for recurrence.
