In one possible timeline, a band of four musicians who are into electronic music and exploratory jams breaks up after a few years. It’s not unusual, since they met in a small college town where turnover is high and people reluctantly pursue careers elsewhere.
In another timeline, the group lasts about a decade after half the band moved away. They just happened to be savvy with computer technology for live audio and video collaboration long before Zoom was a capitalized verb in the dictionary and global pandemics were the stuff of science fiction.
Modality, a Missoula group that dates back to 2009, falls into the latter reality.
Despite the distance, they’ve continued to evolve, as heard on their latest full-length album, “Embodiment,” released last month on Bandcamp and other streaming services.
