The current heat wave affecting much of the country can have negative impacts on our bodies, pets, and even our tech devices.
Whether you’re going to the pool, hiking, or simply running errands, leaving your cellphone in a hot car for just thirty minutes can cause it to overheat and sustain significant damage.
Eileen Wood shared a scary experience with her overheated phone.
“I was by the pool when it suddenly beeped and turned off. I was worried about what would happen next after it shut down,” she said.
Many device owners face issues with phones and tablets overheating.
At a uBreakiFix by Asurion store, Alex Hausfeld explained that if your phone shuts down and needs time to cool off, it’s actually a safety feature.
“The device is trying to protect itself by shutting down to prevent further damage,” he mentioned.
Hausfeld emphasized that exposing your phone to direct sunlight by the pool or leaving it on a hot dashboard can be detrimental.
“Leaving your phone in a hot car is like baking it,” he warned.
Leaving it in the sun for over thirty minutes can cause the battery to expand and potentially result in a total device failure, risking data loss or even a fire hazard.
If your phone struggles with heat, Hausfeld recommends placing it in a cool area, in front of a fan, or in your car’s AC. However, avoid placing it in a fridge or freezer as it might damage the device.
Furthermore, Hausfeld advised against leaving your phone on the dashboard during a long drive.
Mom Joy Seidel, cautious of her actions after leaving a store in a hot parking lot, expressed her intention to be careful in the upcoming weeks.
“I won’t leave it in the car and will keep it out of the sun,” she vowed.
Make sure to exercise caution in the hot sun and around water to avoid unnecessary expenses.
