Survivor contestant Drew Basile is taking the strategy of “outwit, outplay, outlast” from Jeopardy! Drew emerged victorious in his third Jeopardy! game on the June 21 episode, winning in a rare Tiebreaker Round.
During the game on Friday, Drew, a grad student from Birmingham, Michigan, competed against Josh Heit from Silver Spring, Maryland, and Richelle Brown from Alexandria, Virginia.
By the first commercial break, Drew was slightly ahead of Josh, and Richelle managed to surpass Josh by the end of the Jeopardy! round. However, Drew extended his lead in Double Jeopardy!, especially after correctly answering a $4,000 Daily Double question. At the end of this round, Drew had $20,000, Josh had $10,000, and Richelle had $1,000.
Next up was the Final Jeopardy! round, with a clue about a sports star who received a “standing ovation in the Deep South” from Vin Scully after breaking a long-standing record 50 years ago. The correct response was: “Who is Hank Aaron?”
Richelle couldn’t crack this clue and lost $5, ending with a final score of $995. Josh, on the other hand, answered correctly and doubled his score with a $10,000 wager. Drew also gave the right response but wagered $0, tying with Josh at $20,000. The audience was shocked as the game entered a Tiebreaker Round, only the sixth time this had happened during regular play. (The last tie in a regular game occurred on July 8, 2022, according to The Jeopardy! Fan.)
The Tiebreaker Round asked a science-related question about a phenomenon named after a 19th-century man that is noticeable in both moving light and sound sources. Drew quickly answered with “What is the Doppler effect?” and celebrated his third Jeopardy! win!
