Jess Vestal has learned that Harry Jowsey is not her Perfect Match, despite her hopes for a happily-ever-after on the Netflix dating show’s second season.
“I do think people can change. I don’t know if that was the best example of it, but I do believe that,” Jess shared with People in a post-finale interview. “I feel like at some point, I’d like to think everyone has to grow up. I’d like to think when someone says they want to settle down, have a family, get married, that they mean it. So I just took what he said at face value.”
Jess and Harry ended their relationship after filming, and the Season 2 finale exposed that he had deceived her by kissing co-star Melinda Berry during the competition. (He also expressed inappropriate intentions towards Melinda.) This revelation came after several individuals on the show, including Harry’s friend Dom Gabriel, raised concerns about Harry’s motives.
“He treated me well until he didn’t,” Jess reflected to People, mentioning the beautiful moments they shared. “It was believable. I felt like he genuinely wanted to change. I thought he had learned his lesson and wanted something real. I thought, ‘Ask and you shall receive.'”
In the end, Jess discovered that many promises and commitments were not kept, but she extended to Harry the same grace she would desire for herself.
“I was hopeful to find love, but I was okay if I didn’t…but things didn’t go as I expected,” she noted. “Sometimes, the toughest lessons are the most valuable to learn.”
