Only 4 days are left until Donald Trump and President Joe Biden face off in the first debate of the 2024 election.
Trump held a rally in Philadelphia over the weekend, marking his fourth visit to the battleground state of Pennsylvania this year. During Saturday’s event, Trump spoke for nearly an hour and a half, discussing the economy, foreign policy, and the environment. Earlier in the day, he reached out to Christian voters at the Faith and Freedom Coalition in Washington, D.C.
Meanwhile, President Biden spent the weekend at Camp David in Maryland, getting ready for Thursday’s debate. Camp David has traditionally served as a pre-debate preparation location for presidents. Biden’s advisors are preparing him to face a more prepared Trump this time around.
The debate on Thursday will follow agreed-upon rules by the candidates to prevent insults and interruptions. Microphones will be muted when it’s not a candidate’s turn to speak, and there will be no live audience present.
Scripps News spoke with presidential historian Talmage Boston to discuss the evolution of debates in recent years and offer insights into what to expect from this year’s first meeting between the candidates.
