The NASCAR Cup Series heads to New Hampshire Motor Speedway and it’s “Magic Mile” short-track this weekend for the USA Today 301.
Martin Truex Jr. is the defending champion, leading the Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota team to nine wins at the track – the most of any Cup team all-time.
Fords have also run well at the 1-mile Loudon circuit, as the winningest manufacturer with 12 victories, including lifting the giant lobster four out of the last six races.
A Chevy has driven to Victory Lane only once in the last 17 New Hampshire Cup starts.
This is also a long-shot track.
That’s right, there have been 10 different winners who have started the race outside the top 20 (19.2%) in 52 Cup races there. That’s good enough to tie the 1-mile New England track with Charlotte Motor Speedway for third-most winners outside of the top 20, behind Daytona (14) and Richmond Raceway (13).

Oh, and six out of the last 11 New Hampshire winners started outside of the top 10.
That’s something to keep in mind as FrontPageBets takes a look at the drivers to watch in Sunday’s USA Today 301 from New Hampshire Motor Speedway (2:30 p.m.; USA Network).

Bell, the driver of the No. 20 Toyota, is one of three Joe Gibbs Racing drivers at the top of the odds boards to win at New Hampshire: Truex (+500) and Denny Hamlin (+600) are the other two. (Hamlin, by the way, is tied with Kyle Busch for the most NHMS wins by an active Cup driver with three.)
In four career starts at the 1-mile track, Bell has one win and one runner-up finish.
He was also on the pole in last year’s race.
Logano, the driver of the No. 22 Team Penske Ford, has two wins at New Hampshire in his career, with the last one coming 10 years ago.
However, since that last victory at the 1-mile track, Logano has turned in six top-5 finishes in 12 races, including second place last year.
Chastain, driver of the No. 1 Trackhouse Racing Team Chevy, sits 10th in Cup points this season.
While he doesn’t have a win yet in 2024, he does have six top-10s, including two top-5s.
In five career races at New Hampshire, Chastain has two top-10s. And two of his four career Cup wins have come at tracks 1-2 miles in length.
