Starting a mixed martial arts career at the age of thirty-two might seem late in the game.
However, for Missoula’s Jake Burritt, it turned out to be a perfect time.
“I made some mistakes six years ago that led me to prison,” said Burritt, who recently won a fight in Missoula. “But I turned my life around, focused on fitness, and helped others in prison do the same.”
Burritt’s passion for helping others has not only transformed his life inside prison but also helped him outside, where he now works as a group fitness instructor at VRTX Fitness in Missoula.
“I have a lot of friends in prison and I’m grateful for the opportunity to help change lives through fitness,” he shared.

Unlike many fighters, Burritt trains independently and attributes his mental and physical strength to his time in prison.
His mixed martial arts debut in front of a enthusiastic crowd was a memorable experience, and now he’s motivated to train harder and fight again.
Other winners at the event included Isaiah Silveira, AJ Hotchins, Junior Maldonado, Sheadyn Croft, Darren Houle, Lance Regimbal, and Michael Kampel.
