A draft proposal in Montana is aiming to prevent the opening of any new marijuana dispensaries in the near future.
Presented to the Economic Affairs Interim Committee, this proposal suggests a ban on new licenses until 2027. Existing license holders may have their licenses renewed or could transfer ownership.
This proposal is still in its early stages, and if approved by the committee, it could be introduced during the 2025 legislative session.
Currently, Montana has more than 450 dispensaries listed with the Department of Revenue. The Department of Revenue website indicates that applications for new dispensary licenses will be available starting 7/1/2025.
