Authorities in Fordyce, Arkansas, confirmed that three people were killed in a mass shooting at a grocery store on Friday.
Fordyce is located about 70 miles south of Little Rock, the state’s capital.
Arkansas State Police reported that at least 10 civilians and two law enforcement officers were shot during the incident.
The injured civilians have varying degrees of injuries, with some critical and others non-life-threatening. The police officers’ injuries are not life-threatening.
It is not clear whether the shooting took place inside or outside the store.
The suspected shooter, identified as 44-year-old Travis Eugene Posey of New Edinburg, was wounded in a shootout with police. They are in custody and facing three counts of capital murder.
Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee-Sanders commended first responders for their swift action and expressed her condolences to the victims and those affected by the tragedy.
White House Spokesperson Jeremy M. Edwards mentioned that federal law enforcement is assisting in the investigation. President Joe Biden has been briefed on the situation and will receive updates.
