Former President Donald Trump has announced that he has made his decision on who he wants as his running mate in the upcoming 2024 presidential election.
Speaking during a campaign stop in Philadelphia, Trump revealed to a reporter that he has chosen his vice presidential candidate, keeping the identity of the person a secret for now. He hinted that the chosen individual will likely be present at CNN’s presidential debate on Thursday.
Trump intends to officially disclose his VP pick around the time of the Republican National Convention, scheduled to take place from July 15th to July 18th in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Among the contenders on Trump’s shortlist for vice president, apart from former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson, are several elected Republicans including:
- Sen. J.D. Vance – Ohio
- Rep. Elise Stefanik – New York
- Gov. Doug Burgum – North Dakota
- Sen. Marco Rubio – Florida
- Sen. Tim Scott – South Carolina
- Sen. Tom Cotton – Arkansas
- Rep. Byron Donalds – Florida
One other potential running mate previously mentioned by Trump is South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, who endorsed Trump early last fall. Trump emphasized that he is looking for a Vice President who is capable of taking on the role of President if needed.
