‘Inside Out 2’ scores $100M in its second weekend, setting records
NEW YORK (AP) — Weekend number two was just as joyous for “Inside Out 2.” The Pixar sequel collected $100 million in ticket sales in its second weekend, according to studio estimates Sunday, setting a new record for an animated movie in its follow-up frame in theaters. Only six movies ever have had better second weekends. The previous best second weekend for an animated title was the $92 million for “The Super Mario Bros. Movie.” In just a week and a half, “Inside Out 2” has become 2024’s highest-grossing film to date with $724.4 million globally. In about a week, “Inside Out 2” will likely blow through the $1 billion mark, which would make it the first film since “Barbie” to do so.
Connor McDavid and the Oilers can make history in Stanley Cup Final Game 7 against the Panthers
SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers are on the verge of pulling off one of the biggest comebacks in sports history. They can win the Stanley Cup in Game 7 of the final against the Florida Panthers on Monday night after falling behind 3-0 in the series and reeling off three consecutive victories. The previous time an NHL team with that deficit came all the way back to hoist the Cup was the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1942. The Oilers are doing their best to block out the ramifications of this improbable rally by focusing on the final game of the season.
A Mexico City neighborhood keeps the iconic Volkswagen Beetle alive
MEXICO CITY (AP) — The Volkswagen Beetle may have been born in Germany, but the “Bug” is king in a neighborhood on the fringes of Mexico City. Classic Beetles are known as “vochos” in Mexico and still line the streets of Cuautepec — so much so that the area has been nicknamed “Vocholandia.” The Beetle has long been dubbed “the people’s car” because it was considered inexpensive and reliable. In Cuautepec, older models are widely used because they are one of the few cars that can get up the area’s steep hills. But mechanics in the area say the use of the car is dying off.

Each was found separately by emergency responders and pronounced dead at hospitals. Officials say the Pennsylvania couple was vacationing with their six children when they got caught swimming in a rip current off the Atlantic coast’s Hutchinson Island.

Vogue World celebrates French style, Olympics amid razzmatazz, as menswear season wraps up in Paris
PARIS (AP) — On International Olympic Day, Vogue World took over the last day of Paris Fashion Week’s menswear collections with a show-cum-spectacle themed around the Olympics. The rare event held Sunday at the iconic Place Vendôme blended athleticism, French fashion, and pure, unadulterated razzmatazz from the past century — marking 100 years since the last Games in Paris in 1924. It also came on the date in 1894 that the founder of the modern Olympics, French nobleman Pierre de Coubertin, launched the International Olympic Committee. The show matched different sports to different eras and styles in a high-octane collection extravaganza that felt like a polished Broadway musical — with amazing clothes from top French designers.

Tchouaméni has also suggested that France is working on its finishing after the World Cup runner-up scored just one goal in its first two group-stage games at Euro 2024.

It’s a busy tourist hub near Michigan Avenue, particularly for photos and selfies with its reflective surface inspired by liquid mercury. Different sections of the sculpture feature views of city skyscrapers.

LONDON (AP) — Taylor Swift fans enjoy parsing the singer-songwriter’s lyrics for references to her romantic life and insights into her state of her mind. But Swifties in the U.K. didn’t have to listen closely to her latest album to get the sense that Swift had soured on the country’s capital after making it her second home. London is showing the love, with murals and tributes to Swift near Wembley Stadium. Among the 88,000 people in attendance for Friday’s first show — Prince William and two of his children.
