Only 4 days left until Donald Trump and President Joe Biden face off in the first debate of the 2024 election.
Trump held a rally in Philadelphia over the weekend, marking his fourth visit to the battleground state of Pennsylvania this year. During Saturday’s event, Trump spoke at length about the economy, foreign policy, and the environment. Earlier that day, he appealed to Christian voters at the Faith and Freedom Coalition in Washington, D.C.
Meanwhile, President Biden spent the weekend at Camp David in Maryland, getting ready for the upcoming debate. Camp David has traditionally been a place for presidents to prepare for debates and major speeches. Biden’s team is gearing up for a debate against a more prepared Trump this time.
The debate on Thursday will have rules agreed upon by both candidates to prevent insults and interruptions. Microphones will be muted when it’s not someone’s turn to speak, and there won’t be a live audience present.
Scripps News spoke to presidential historian Talmage Boston about the changing nature of debates in recent years and what we can anticipate from the first meeting of the candidates this year.
