‘Inside Out 2’ scores $100M in its second weekend, setting records
NEW YORK (AP) — Weekend number two was just as joyous for “Inside Out 2.” The Pixar sequel collected $100 million in ticket sales in its second weekend, according to studio estimates Sunday, setting a new record for an animated movie in its follow-up frame in theaters. Only six movies ever have had better second weekends. The previous best second weekend for an animated title was the $92 million for “The Super Mario Bros. Movie.” In just a week and a half, “Inside Out 2” has become 2024’s highest-grossing film to date with $724.4 million globally. In about a week, “Inside Out 2” will likely blow through the $1 billion mark, which would make it the first film since “Barbie” to do so.
Hawaii lifeguard dies in shark attack while surfing off Oahu
Hawaii authorities say a professional lifeguard has died after he was attacked by a shark while surfing off the island of Oahu. City and County of Honolulu Ocean Safety lifeguard Tamayo Perry, 49, died in the attack near Goat Island on Sunday. Shayne Enright of the Honolulu Emergency Services Department says Honolulu police, fire and rescue personnel responded to Mālaekahana Beach just before 1 p.m. after a caller reported seeing a man who appeared to have suffered shark bites. Enright says lifeguards brought Perry to shore by jet ski and paramedics assisted with the death pronouncement. Perry began his career with the Ocean Safety department in July 2016. Enright says Ocean Safety personnel posted shark warnings in the area following the attack.

Connor McDavid and the Oilers can make history in Stanley Cup Final Game 7 against the Panthers
SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers are on the verge of pulling off one of the biggest comebacks in sports history. They can win the Stanley Cup in Game 7 of the final against the Florida Panthers on Monday night after falling behind 3-0 in the series and reeling off three consecutive victories. The previous time an NHL team with that deficit came all the way back to hoist the Cup was the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1942. The Oilers are doing their best to block out the ramifications of this improbable rally by focusing on the final game of the season.
European Union regulators accuse Apple of breaching digital competition rules for App Store
LONDON (AP) — European Union regulators accused Apple on Monday of breaking new rules on digital competition by imposing rules in its App Store marketplace that prevent app makers from pointing users to cheaper options on other venues. The European Commission said Monday that according to the preliminary findings of its investigation, the iPhone maker had breached the 27-nation bloc’s Digital Markets Act. The rulebook is a sweeping set of regulations aimed at preventing tech giants from cornering digital markets. The commission also opened a fresh investigation zeroing in on a new fee Apple is charging developers for app installations from outside its App Store. Apple said it is “confident” that its plan “complies with the law.”
A Mexico City neighborhood keeps the iconic Volkswagen Beetle alive
MEXICO CITY (AP) — The Volkswagen Beetle may have been born in Germany, but the “Bug” is king in a neighborhood on the fringes of Mexico City. Classic Beetles are known as “vochos” in Mexico and still line the streets of Cuautepec — so much so that the area has been nicknamed “Vocholandia.” The Beetle has long been dubbed “the people’s car” because it was considered inexpensive and reliable. In Cuautepec, older models are widely used because they are one of the few cars that can get up the area’s steep hills. But mechanics in the area say the use of the car is dying off.

Each was found separately by emergency responders and pronounced dead at hospitals. Officials say the Pennsylvania couple was vacationing with their six children when they got caught swimming in a rip current off the Atlantic coast’s Hutchinson Island.

Martínez has been on the Blue Jays’ 40-man roster since November 2022. He went 1 for 3 with a strikeout on Friday at Cleveland.
Vogue World celebrates French style, Olympics amid razzmatazz, as menswear season wraps up in Paris
PARIS (AP) — On International Olympic Day, Vogue World took over the last day of Paris Fashion Week’s menswear collections with a show-cum-spectacle themed around the Olympics. The rare event held Sunday at the iconic Place Vendôme blended athleticism, French fashion, and pure, unadulterated razzmatazz from the past century — marking 100 years since the last Games in Paris in 1924. It also came on the date in 1894 that the founder of the modern Olympics, French nobleman Pierre de Coubertin, launched the International Olympic Committee. The show matched different sports to different eras and styles in a high-octane collection extravaganza that felt like a polished Broadway musical — with amazing clothes from top French designers.
