NEW YORK (AP) — Amazon has teamed up with rap sensation Megan Thee Stallion to drive sales for its 10th annual Prime Day event.
Recently, the rapper launched a brand new song called “It’s Prime Day.” In the accompanying music video, she is seen buying various products including a pink dog collar and fake eyelashes from Amazon.
This year, Amazon’s two-day discount extravaganza will take place on July 16-17. It follows a four-day sales event held by Walmart, which is planning to offer its “biggest deals” ever from July 8 to July 11.
Prime members, who pay $14.99 per month or $139 per year, can avail of Amazon’s discounts and perks like free shipping.
While Amazon does not disclose specific revenue figures from these events, it has been increasing the frequency of such sales to attract consumers managing rising credit costs and inflation.
In recent years, Amazon has launched October events for Prime members to kick off the holiday shopping season. In March, the company held its first spring sales event for all shoppers in face of competition from budget retailers like Shein and Temu.
July’s discount event will involve Prime members from twenty-four countries, signaling the beginning of the back-to-school shopping season. Amazon anticipates that Prime discounts will attract shoppers to its offerings.
Amazon announced that Megan Thee Stallion’s Prime exclusive song, a bonus track from her upcoming album “MEGAN,” will be exclusively available for fans on Amazon Music. Additionally, early deals on merchandise from the rapper’s new tour collection will be offered.
