BILLINGS — Wednesday will start dry, but an area of low pressure will bring moisture from the Gulf of Mexico into the region, leading to a chance of showers and thunderstorms from Wednesday evening through Thursday night.
While general thunderstorms are possible on Wednesday, there is a potential for strong to severe storms on Thursday with the main threats being strong winds and large hail. There is also a possibility of isolated heavy rainfall.
A cold front moving through on Thursday could bring light snow showers above 9,000 feet to the western mountains on Thursday night.
Winds will pick up across the region on Thursday and Friday as the frontal boundary passes, with gusts exceeding 40 mph expected over those two days.
Rain chances will diminish on Friday and Saturday before another trough brings more rain to the area on Sunday evening into Monday, although there is some uncertainty in the forecast. Updates will be provided.
Daytime highs will be mostly in the 80s, with some areas reaching the 90s on Wednesday and Thursday before temperatures cool off into the 60s and 70s on Friday. Temperatures will rise again over the weekend.
