On Wednesday morning, the directors of Yellowstone County’s four museums spoke before commissioners to weigh in on the county’s budget, which includes a museum revenue fund.
Yellowstone County Museum Director Zach Garhart led off, followed by the Western Heritage Center’s Executive Director Kevin Kooistra and Huntley Project Museum Director Neal Gunnells. Jessica Kay Ruhle, the executive director of the Yellowstone Art Museum, spoke last.
This hearing, which occurs yearly, is usually pretty procedural, but this year is different. In late May, the commissioners sent the YAM a letter saying that the museum’s share of the county museum fund would be cut to 20% in 2025 and 15% in 2026.
