A tragic incident occurred in North Carolina, where a woman has been charged with involuntary manslaughter after her 8-year-old daughter died from being left in a hot car.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to an emergency call on Wilkinson Boulevard in Charlotte and found the young girl in critical condition inside the car. She was rushed to a local hospital but unfortunately succumbed to her condition.
Investigators determined that the girl was left alone in the hot car and a medical emergency led to her tragic death. The girl’s mother, identified as Ashlee Stallings, was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter and child abuse by willful act causing serious injury.
The Associated Press reported that the mother claimed she left the child in the car with the air conditioning on while she went to work, but she suspected the child may have turned it off. She mentioned receiving a text from the child before finding her unresponsive in the car.
The woman broke into the car with a hammer and sought help from a nearby business on her way to the hospital. Stallings is currently in the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
